7 tips for a healthy summer

Summer means heat, lots of sweating, dryness, skin problems like tan, sunburns, pimples, heat rashes, blemishes and much more. While summer may be some relief from cold and chilly days, it may also bring along various health problems like dehydration, upset stomach, bacterial infections, heat stroke etc. It is exigent to make sure you are eating the right foods and exercising the right way to fitness and health. The beginning of new season calls for a change in routine, a revamped diet and of course a new exercise regimen that suits the weather. The onset of warm weather can make your body more vulnerable to diseases and certain health guidelines must be followed to ensure a healthy summer.

Ingest light and healthy food

Consume light, small frequent meals. Focus on fresh fruits and vegetables that give high water content – such as oranges, watermelon, tomatoes etc. Avoid heavy meals with large amounts of carbohydrates and fats because it gives rise to a lot of heat in the body. Your body requires a constant supply of water and fluids to sustain through the rough weather. Eating whole foods balances your body temperature and wards off diseases. It also helps hydrate the skin and keep it supple. Avoid or cut back on fried, fatty foods to ease your stomach's workload.

Drink plenty of water

Hot summer keeps your body dehydrated and this is because of the heat and sweat. Lack of water is also harmful to your body and can make you crave food even when you’re not actually hungry. Drink at least 8-9 glasses of water a day to keep you hydrated. You can even drink coconut water, buttermilk, green tea, fresh fruit juices etc., to keep you healthy and hydrated.

Stay shady

We all love the summer heat, but it is essential to stay in the shade whenever possible. Avoid getting direct sunlight. Apply a good sunscreen lotion, especially when stepping out of your house, which can effectively protect your skin from the harmful UV rays. Wearing light and breathable fabrics like cotton, silk and linen - is an ideal way to beat the heat.

Embrace the radiance of the sun

It’s time to remove your woolen clothes and bask in the suns warm glow. Sunlight is one of the best sources of vitamin D, use this opportunity to exercise or eat outdoors in the morning. It is advisable to soak in the sun rays early in the morning, as this can be the best way to start your day with a rejuvenating note.

Get adequate sleep

Sleep plays a vital role in your well-being. And so in this hot temperature, Ayurveda recommends you to take natural herbs like Tagara which promotes restful sleep. Tagara can calm the mind due to its sedative and sleep-enhancing properties.

Little modification in your lifestyle

Summer is a great time to dream of something healthy. The warm weather means you can get outside and start exercising, get into sports club, walk-in fresh air. Visit your local market, purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and kick start a new healthy eating regimen.

Stay cool

When it’s hot, do what you can to stay cool. A vacation to get away from stress is a must to re-energize and refuel. Or you can plan a pool party with your friends and family. Or you can take a long weekend at the beach, take out some time this summer to relax and rejuvenate.

Fortunately, there are many things you can do to relax and rejuvenate yourself during summers. Healthy eating, keeping yourself hydrated are few of the main factors that contribute to a person’s better well-being.
